Rodin’s library comprises some 2,000 volumes. These books, which he donated to the French state in 1916, include poetry, art history, literature, and many precious books and exhibition catalogues.

There are some inevitable difficulties with the precise identification of the books in the library as its initial order is lost, it was moved several times, and the first stocktake was not carried out until ten years after Rodin’s death.

This research project, in partnership with the University of Neuchâtel, was initiated in 2019. Its goals are to identify each book, to reconstruct Rodin’s personal library and to explore his relationship with books.

The research results will be showcased by the online publication of the Rodin Library catalogue and a paper publication on Rodin and books.
