Le Studio Rodin

Le Studio Rodin

The Musée Rodin presents Le Studio Rodin, a unique exhibition of reproductions of sculptures made from original moulds by Auguste Rodin. Designed by the Musée Rodin for all audiences in areas far from major cultural centres, Le Studio Rodin is the first exhibition to be provided free of charge and to be permanently installed in a given area.

The traveling exhibition, consisting of seven thematic sets, will be displayed in unexpected spaces such as town halls, libraries, post offices, retirement homes, and community centers. By bringing Rodin's works to these locations, the project fosters a deeper connection between the public and one of the greatest sculptors in history.

Making Rodin’s Art Accessible Across Communities

Le Studio Rodin reflects the museum’s mission to preserve, promote, and share the legacy of Auguste Rodin. As the official steward of Rodin’s moral rights, the museum has created a model to showcase 21 sculptures, including 19 works of Auguste Rodin and 2 works by Camille Claudel. The reproductions, made from Rodin’s original molds, are crafted in resin with finishes imitating marble, bronze, or plaster.

These pieces are grouped into seven thematic sets. Each grouping is complemented by seven facsimiles of Rodin’s drawings and seven archival photographs.

The thematic sets, identified by distinct colors, are designed to be exhibited independently. The exhibition features an engaging, accessible design and interpretive materials, offering a unique artistic experience for diverse audiences.

    An exhibition and education appliance

Empowering communities with a turnkey solution

The Studio Rodin is designed to enable local governments and actors to host the exhibition with maximum autonomy. Musée Rodin provides a comprehensive set of resources to ensure the success of each installation, including:

    • Assembly and maintenance manuals
    • Training protocols for staff
    • Detailed documentation and educational resources
    • Customizable communication kits

The exhibition has been designed to be as compact and easy to install as possible, making it adaptable to spaces not originally designed for cultural events or exhibtion projects, to facilitate transport and storage, but also with a view to minimising its ecological impact. Even the transport crates double as pedestals for the sculptures, reducing logistical complexity and environmental impact.

    Educating Through Art

    With La Rodinothèque

Art education is central to Le Studio Rodin. A mobile educational workshop, known as La Rodinothèque, accompanies the exhibition to engage schoolchildren and young audiences. The workshop offers seven activities that explore key concepts of sculpture, such as

    • balance
    • modeling
    • tools
    • drawing
    • but also interactive quizzes, readings, and even a photo studio...

Beyond the exhibition, additional events and programs will connect visitors to the Musée Rodin in Paris and Meudon, fostering long-term relationships between the museum and local communities.

    Launching December 2024

The first iteration of Le Studio Rodin debuts on December 3, 2024, in partnership with the Community of Giennoises Municipalities, located in the Centre-Val de Loire region. This area, home to 11 municipalities and 25,000 residents, is known for its commitment to cultural innovation and accessibility. Two key cultural policies in the region support this partnership:

    1.  Art Education: Programs include theater, music, and visual arts workshops for all ages, from daycare centers to high schools.
    2. Accessibility: Cultural events, often free of charge, are held outside traditional venues, including in underserved neighborhoods and during local festivals. By aligning with these values, Le Studio Rodin aims to enhance the quality of life for residents, increase cultural participation, and strengthen the region’s appeal.

    Future Expansion

After its initial deployment, the Rodin Museum plans to produce one to two new thematic sets per year in 2025 and 2026. This will expand the program to communities across France, ensuring widespread access to Rodin’s legacy. ---

Le Studio Rodin is made possible thanks to the support of the Crédit Mutuel Alliance Fédérale Foundation, founding patron, and Domaine Faiveley.

Le Studio Rodin was designed by the teams at FREAKS and HEADQUARTER.

FREAKS is an architectural and scenographic studio. It works mainly on projects for public cultural facilities (museums, theatres, art centres, exhibition spaces, etc.) and also designs numerous exhibition scenographies.

HEADQUARTER is a visual communications agency. The studio's approach is to tackle complex subjects with simplicity. In its quest for innovation, the team works mainly with researchers, cultural venues and businesses.
